BNB 1: NAIROBI CITY TOUR 3HRS.
Nairobi
city, just like any other city in the world has several attractions within.
The tour starts either early morning or each afternoon. drive by the parliament
buildings for a view, the Kenyatta International Conference Center, the
Railway Museum with great memories of 19th century aircrafts, national
archives, the Nairobi Viewpoint, American Embassy Bomb blast site and
the tour ends with a visit to the National Museums of Kenya where you
get to know Kenya's culture, flora, fauna, wildlife, bird life and the
history of the Kenya-Uganda railway. As you end your tour visit the Snake
Park, which is just adjacent to the museum.
BNB 2: KAREN BLIXEN MUSEUM
2HRS.
The
movie 'Out of Africa' rings in everyone's mind as you visit this beautiful
home of the late Danish lady, Karen Blixen. At the magnificent Karen Blixen
museum, most of the households are as she left them and some have been
donated back by the Danish government. There is a lot to learn by as one
walks from one room to another accompanied by the guide who narrates the
whole story of her life and love affairs. Take a tour also to the gardens
and the coffee machinery.
BNB 3: GIRAFFE CENTER 2HRS
This is a giraffe manor for the endangered Rothschild giraffe. It's built
on a platform to make it easier for people to feed the giraffes from vheir
hands. The house has also lots of writings on the walls about giraffes
and their behavior. With prior arrangement, people can watch a video of
the Rothschild giraffe. There is a nice coffee shop and a curio shop.
Try their products, its all Kenyan to build Kenya.
BNB 4: DAVID SHELDRICK WILDLIFE
TRUST 2HRS
The orphaned baby elephants and baby rhinos are interesting and exciting
to see. They have lost their mothers accidentally either by poaching,
injuries, death or other tragedies. Once comforted up to a certain age,
the babies are released back to the wild. Here people extend humanitarian
care to the wildlife. The feeding time is between 1100hrs and 1200hrs.
They are covered with African kikoi's and really look happy anytime people
go to visit them. They are fed on milk from a bottle and there is also
a lot of history about where and when they were rescued. They bear most
of Kiswahili names in relation to their previous life. You can't miss
the exciting experience.
BNB 5: BOMAS OF KENYA 21/2
HRS
This is a traditional dance arena. The dances start at 1500hrs each day.
Since Kenya has more than 42 different ethnic groups, each group performs
with their traditional regalia and dialect. Take home nice photos from
all corners of the country.
BNB 6: CARNIVORE RESTAURANT
It's not just a restaurant but also an experience. The succulent wild
game barbeque gives all the visitors a different experience in diet, be
it lunch or dinner; everyone enjoys the game meat. Crocodiles, giraffes,
zebra, antelope among others accompanied by different sauces are just
but a few examples of the meet served at the carnivore. Visit the carnivore,
be a carnivorous.
BNB 7: RAILWAY MUSEUM
"The Lunatic Express" is a common term to refer to the railway
line. At the museum you will find the coach 'Kima Killer' where a lion
snatched Charles Henry Ryall a railway superintendent in 1900. He was
a hunter but this time he became the hunted. A cartoon portrays the Nairobi
Station as a pool full of crocodiles and Lions pulling people out of the
train cabins. Books like Kima Killer and White Mischief are also available.
Visitors will also love items like typewriters, old-fashioned telephone
heads, brass lanterns and huge clocks. A dining table and a wall unit
that was salvaged from the wreckage of Konigberg is also in this Museum.
Well-displayed pictures of the people who constructed the railway hang
peacefully on the walls of the museum. Visitors who love history should
not miss this museum. Get yourself lost in this history as you read all
the literature and enjoy pictures.
1 DAY: LAKE NAIVASHA
Depart Nairobi at 0800hrs with packed lunch and drive down the Great Rift
Valley stopping at the viewpoint for photography. Continue on to get to
Hell's Gate National Park at 0930hrs and take bikes to the park. Leave
the bikes at rangers post after 7kms ride. Enjoy the spectacular gorge.
Walk a trip that takes you 3 hrs. You will find hot springs and a fabulous
scenic landscape besides the diverse game. Walk back to pick your bikes
and return to the vehicle for the 90kms journey back to Nairobi.
1 DAY: MT. LONGONOT
The young volcanic mountain is found at M. Longonot Park. It's a wonderful
day trip from Nairobi. The tour starts at 0800hrs and it's advisable to
take packed lunch. Once at the gate of the park, start the hike that takes
1½ hrs before getting to the rim of the crater, from the top, wonderful
views of lake Naivasha and the great rift valley, the mountain has V-shaped
valleys and ridges. The crater has a dense forest. Walk around the crater
for approximately 3 hrs. Walk down to catch your transport back to Nairobi
to arrive late afternoon.
1 DAY: NGONG FOREST
6kms from Nairobi city center lies the only indigenous forest in the world
that is closest to the capital city. The forest covers 600hectares and
is managed by the Ngong Forest Sanctuary Trust, which is a private trust.
The walk in the forest with a help of a professional naturalist helps
you identify lots of species of birds. Later enjoy some hot lunch and
refreshments at the Ngong racecourse restaurant.
1 DAY: EXCURSIONS TO FOURTEEN
FALLS
The drive is about 65kms from Nairobi as you turn on to Thika/Garrissa
road. The falls derive the name from the 14 successive falls of water
on the Athi River. Activities like boating, fishing, photography, walks
and bird watching are the major attractions of this day trip.
Kilimambogo, the 'Mountain
of Buffaloes', is close nearby. Up the hill lies the grave of the great
late philanthropist Sir McMillan, his wife and their horse help. A picnic
lunch will be served at the spot where McMillan entertained Roosevelt
and Churchill when they paid him a courtesy call. Return to Nairobi late
afternoon with some beautiful and definitely unforgettable memories.
1 DAY: LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL
PARK
Nakuru National Park lies 160kms north west of Nairobi.
The park is famous for its greater and lesser flamingoes and other terrestrial
birds numbering up to 450 species. It's also a rhino sanctuary. The park
has unique and the biggest euphorbia forest and yellow acacia woodland.
The trip departs Nairobi at
0700hrs. Drive down the Great Rift Valley getting to Nakuru by 0930hrs
and head on for a game drive. You will be welcome by baboons at the gate.
Visit the shallow, strongly alkaline lake with pink flamingos. A short
break for lunch either at one of the luxurious lodges or at the picnic
site. Continue with an afternoon game drive before driving back to Nairobi
to arrive late afternoon.
1 DAY: KIAMBETHU
TEA FARM
The highlands of Kenya have a long time history of tea farming since the
time of the white settlers. Take a personal testimony with you.
Depart the city at 1000hrs
and drive to the north of the city and stop enroute to view the big tea
plantations. Arrive at Kiambethu Tea Farm where the grand children of
Mitchell Kiambethu, the first white tea farmers in the country will meet
you. Learn about the ancient history of the farm and tea farming in Kenya
as you enjoy the best brands of tea grown in Kenya and those exported.
Visit the tea farm for a practical view of the plant's pruning and harvesting,
then visit the 6 acre natural forest for a walk with a guide where you
learn different herbs and their use, small animals and insects that live
there.
Return to the home for some soft drink, as you wait for lunch.
Later enjoy a 4-course lunch with delicious homemade cheese and other
local products.
Leave at 1500hrs having enjoyed a wonderful day in a tea farm.
